New Delhi: Former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain, who has been arrested in a money laundering case, was taken to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital as he was feeling ‘unwell’, news agency PTI reported on Monday. Were. Jain has been lodged in Tihar Jail since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case in May.
Earlier last week, the Supreme Court had sought response from the ED on the bail plea of Satyendar Jain in a money laundering case being probed by the agency. A bench of Justices AS Bopanna and Hima Kohli issued notice to the ED and granted liberty to Jain to approach the vacation bench for relief.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Jain, said that the former minister has lost 35 kg in weight and has virtually become a skeleton. He is also suffering from many diseases.
Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the ED, said they were on caveats and were opposing the plea.
The bench did not give any specific date and said that Jain can approach the vacation bench of the apex court for relief.
On 6 April, the Delhi High Court had rejected Jain’s bail plea in a money laundering case, with witnesses claiming that he was the conceptualizer, initiator and fund provider in the alleged crime.
The high court said the senior AAP leader is an influential person who has the ability to tamper with evidence.
The ED had arrested Jain in the money laundering case on the basis of a CBI FIR registered in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He was granted regular bail by the trial court on September 6, 2019, in the case registered by CBI.
The trial court had in 2022 taken cognizance of the prosecution complaint (chargesheet) filed by the ED against Jain, his wife and eight others, including four firms, in the money laundering case.
