BJP takes a jibe at India
The BJP took a jibe at the opposition parties over a Samajwadi Party MLA’s remarks in the Maharashtra Assembly saying ‘Vande Mataram’, asking if this was their idea of ’India’. The BJP’s reaction came when Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi, while raising the Sambhajinagar district riot issue in the assembly, said that the chanting of ‘Vande Mataram’ was unacceptable to him.
BJP’s national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla said in a tweet, “SP’s Abu Azmi says, ‘I will not say Vande Mataram, I will not bow my head as my religion does not allow it.'” But tweeted sarcastically, “Is this the idea of India? Or is it anti-India? SP is part of this so-called India.”

India in name but not in agenda! The first SP released the terrorists and gave protection to Yakub, Afzal… pic.twitter.com/AOV61BC8Iy– Shehzad Jai Hind (@Shehzad_Ind) 19 July 2023
Setting the tone for its 2024 Lok Sabha campaign, 26 opposition parties on Tuesday formed an alliance – the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) – to come together to take on the ruling NDA, with Rahul Gandhi asserting that the battle ” Will be between India and Prime Minister “Narendra Modi”.
Poonawalla alleged that India is in the name of alliance of opposition parties but not in their agenda. He alleged, “First SP released terrorists and gave protection to Yakub (Memon), Afzal (Guru). Congress raised questions on surgical strike, Balakot and blamed India for 26/11, not Pakistan.” This is his real face.” “Will Mamta-di, Kharge ji, Rahul ji tell us their stand?” Poonawala asked.
The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was adjourned on Wednesday after BJP MLAs created an uproar over Abu Azmi’s remarks of speaking ‘Vande Mataram’.
Abu Azmi’s remarks sparked a massive political storm, prompting the Samajwadi Party MLA to later issue a clarification on the matter.
