Spotify is testing a new feature that could make it easier to listen when you’re away from an Internet connection. Called “Your Offline Mix,” the playlist automatically “saves a mix of your recently played songs for when the vibe is high but your connection is low,” according to One Screenshot shared by Spotify CEO Daniel Ek Which shows a playlist about three and a half hours long. Ek didn’t share a timeline on when the feature might see a wider rollout, but considering he’s been publicly tweeting about the test, hopefully it’s not too far away.
The audio streaming app already lets users download playlists or albums for offline listening; A useful feature for saving data when you’re not on Wi-Fi, or when you’re completely without an Internet connection while doing anything from traveling on a plane or riding the subway. But choosing which music to download can be an annoying manual process, especially if you’re someone who likes to jump between lots of different music.
Looks like this could be a neat feature to have when your offline mixes roll out. In the meantime, if you’re struggling with which playlist to download for offline listening, I suggest downloading Spotify’s “Your Top Songs” playlist from last year for you. It may lack the passion of your recent listenings, but at least you’ll have a good starting point to fall back on when your internet fails you.
