India is all set to begin its World Test Championship (WTC) journey for the 2023-2025 cycle with a two-match series in the Caribbean. The series will begin on July 12, with Dominica hosting the first Test, India’s return to the venue after more than a decade. The second and final Test will begin on July 20 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. The Test series will be followed by three ODIs and five T20 Internationals and the tour will end on August 13. The last two T20 matches will be held here. Lauderhill Plains in Florida, USA. The Kensington Oval in Barbados will host the first two ODIs, followed by the third ODI and the first T20I in Trinidad. Guyana will then play the second and third T20 matches.

Johnny Grave, CEO of Cricket West Indies (CWI), expressed his excitement about hosting India and emphasized the opportunity for cricket fans from across the region and the United States to enjoy 18 days of exciting matches. Grave also revealed his collaboration with the ICC T20 World Cup team to augment the temporary infrastructure at the Broward County Cricket Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida ahead of the August T20 International against India. The revamp is aimed at testing the new stands and hospitality facilities for possible use during the T20 World Cup in June next year. Therefore, matches in Florida have greater significance, which contributes to CWI’s operational plans for the T20 World Cup.
The first Test between India and West Indies in Dominica took place in July 2011 at Windsor Park. Alik Athanaz, a local talent who recently grabbed headlines with his joint-fastest fifty on ODI debut, could potentially make his maiden Test appearance. Against India at his home ground. West Indies’ home series against India is set to begin on July 9, just three days after the conclusion of their ODI World Cup qualifier campaign in Harare. If West Indies reach the final, their Test specialists will have limited time to prepare. The first Test in Dominica is likely to see Test players pulled out of the World Cup qualifiers to focus on the home Test series.
West Indies’ recent Test performance at home has been promising as they have won their last two series against Bangladesh and England. India, on the other hand, boast of a strong Test record in the Caribbean, having won their last four Test series in the region. However, India’s Test team is facing scrutiny after a disappointing performance in the WTC final against Australia. Although they both reached the WTC finals, they failed to capture the championship title. Reflecting on the defeat, Rohit Sharma stressed the need for a different approach in ICC tournaments, urging the team to think and act differently. He expressed his desire to break the pattern that had hindered his success in important matches and tournaments over the past eight to nine years.
