Summer is the time to flaunt those beautiful sleeveless or halter-neck tops and dresses and fish out those sexy swimwear. But sometimes, underarm pigmentation can alert people and prevent them from showing their bare skin. Not just women, many men also prefer to wear sleeveless vests and tees in summers. While people, especially women, should not get caught up in preconceived notions of beauty, those looking to tackle underarm pigmentation, Dr. Nishita Ranka, dermatologist, medical director and Dr. Nishita Clinic for Skin, Hair & Aesthetics founder, has a few words of advice.
what causes underarm pigmentation
To deal with underarm pigmentation, it is necessary to first deal with the cause of underarm pigmentation, says Dr. Nishita Ranka. She lists the following common reasons:
1. Obesity: There is a condition called acanthosis nigricans which occurs due to weight gain in obesity and certain hormonal disruptions. So if you are obese or overweight then try to lose weight.
2. Sweating : Another common cause is sweating, Dr. Raka says. So to combat this use some anti-fungal dusting powder which will also help in reducing the friction in this area.
3. Waxing/Shaving: Another very common cause of underarm pigmentation in both men and women is hair removal by waxing or regular shaving. So due to the friction of these two, the skin of that area can become thick and the skin can turn black. “So the best solution for this is laser hair reduction as it is a more permanent type of solution and you do not need to continue after you have finished your sessions. Hence the trigger or trauma due to friction can be reduced, shares Dr. Ranka.

how to deal with underarm pigmentation
Dr. Ranka says that once people take care of and address the causes of pigmentation, “pigmentation that exists can be tackled with certain skin-lightening creams that contain AHAs such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, arbutin.” And kojic acid. These are. All skin-lightening agents that can be used at night on the underarms.”
Dr. Nishita Ranka suggests a few:
1. When looking for skin-lightening products, make sure they are products specifically designed for your underarm areas or body folds. Because skin hairs can be thin, you may get a rash if you use something too strong.
2. Laser hair reduction with skin whitening creams works wonders in most of the cases. But if it is still not helping, then once you have had your laser sessions you can look for chemical peels to reduce the pigmentation there.
3. Another procedure that works surprisingly well to combat this pigment is the Q Switch and Ndiag laser, which can be done over several sessions – Underarms to help you lighten the underarms Maybe four or six seasons on the field. But even after that friction has to be dealt with by using some dusting powder etc.
“Following all of these tips and procedures will help ensure that your underarms are lightened so that you can show off all of your sleeveless dresses and outfits during the summer,” says Dr. Ranka.
