Dehradun: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said Uniform Civil Code is part of the Directive Principles of the Constitution of India and the opposition is raising the issue by labeling it as “vote bank politics”. Singh’s reaction came after opposition parties criticized the Law Commission last week for seeking the opinion of public and religious bodies on the UCC. Singh was addressing a gathering in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun on the completion of nine years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.
“Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is part of the Directive Principles of our country. Why dispute over it? It is already implemented in Goa, Madhya Pradesh. I congratulate Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami ji who has taken initiative in this direction. ” He said that now the Law Commission is taking opinion from across the country.
Taking a dig at the opposition, he said, “They are blowing the issue out of proportion by calling it vote bank politics.” Giving a strong message to the opposition, he said, ‘Politics should not be done to form the government, it should be done to build the society and the nation.’ The defense minister said, “Hindus, Muslims and Christians are all brothers. Many people from the Muslim community also vote for us, but some people only mislead. There is a need to avoid these people.”
“We want social harmony here, whatever has to be done, we will create social harmony here,” he said. Earlier in the day, Rajnath Singh touched upon some of the path-breaking decisions of the PM Modi-led government at the Centre, including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat and abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Also India’s brave fight against COVID-19 pandemic and measures to get rid of colonial mindset while instilling a sense of pride in Indian heritage, traditions and values among people.
Singh also highlighted the steps taken towards women empowerment, which include construction of pucca houses with toilets in rural areas and ensuring that women get equal opportunities as their male counterparts in every field. On the decisions taken to increase the role of women in the armed forces, he said doors have been opened for girls to enter military schools and women officers are being posted on world’s highest battlefield Siachen Glacier and on warships. He said that efforts are being made to make the country completely safe for women and provide ample opportunities to them.
Laying out a roadmap for India’s golden future from a military and security perspective, Raksha Mantri asserts that the government is committed to building an India that is completely self-reliant in the defense sector and has state-of-the-art weapons and technologies . , He highlighted the efforts being made to ensure that the youth of the country have ample opportunities if they wish to serve the motherland as defense scientists.
