New Delhi: Ishita Kishore, a Delhi University graduate and daughter of an Air Force officer, on Tuesday secured the first rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2022. The twenty-six-year-old cracked the prestigious exam in his third attempt.
Ishita Kishore worked with the multinational firm Ernst & Young and is the daughter of a late Air Force officer. She is the youngest of two siblings and her elder brother is a lawyer while her mother taught in a private school.

UPSC CSE 2022 topper Ishita Kishore has also been a national level football player and played in the Subroto Cup in 2012. He is a graduate in Economics (Hons) from Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), University of Delhi.
Kishor, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, currently resides in Greater Noida, and has passed the exam with Political Science and International Relations as optional subjects.
Used to study for eight to nine hours: UPSC topper Ishita Kishore
Ishita Kishore said that she used to study for at least eight to nine hours daily to prepare for the exam. Speaking to news agency PTI, she said that securing first rank in the civil services exam was a ‘dream come true’ for her and she would work towards women empowerment after becoming an IAS officer.
Ishita Kishore told PTI, “I am very happy to get the first rank. It is like a dream come true for me.”
He said that success is the result of their ‘hard work’ and to get results one needs to be ‘very sincere, consistent and dedicated’ to crack civil services.
He said, “I have opted for the Indian Administrative Service. I have preferred Uttar Pradesh (my home state) as my cadre.”
Kishore said that after being a part of the prestigious administrative service, she would work for women empowerment and upliftment of the downtrodden.
He said, “It is an honor to work for your country. Civil service is a better way to serve the country.”
He also thanked his family for their constant encouragement.
She said, “I am very grateful to my family, who stood by me when I could not clear the Civil Services Examination in the first two attempts. They encouraged me a lot.”
UPSC Result 2023: Garima Lohia secured second rank
Garima Lohia, who is also a graduate of Delhi University, secured the second rank after the UPSC CSE 2022 results were declared on Tuesday.
Lohia hails from Buxar, Bihar and has cleared the exam in his second attempt.
The first four rank holders are all women. While Uma Harthi N secured the third rank, Smriti Mishra got the fourth rank.
Harathi N, a resident of Hyderabad, cleared the exam in her fifth attempt. She is a holder of Bachelor of Technology degree from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Hyderabad.
Mishra, a Delhi University graduate, lives in Noida and cleared the exam in his third attempt with zoology as his optional subject.
This is the second year in a row that women candidates have secured the top three positions in the prestigious exam. Shruti Sharma, Ankita Aggarwal and Gamini Singla secured the first, second and third positions in the Civil Services Examination 2021.
UPSC Result 2022: Over 900 candidates qualify Civil Services Exam
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) said that 933 candidates – 613 men and 320 women – have qualified for the Civil Services Examination 2022.
The top 25 candidates include 14 women and 11 men.
The Civil Services Examination is conducted annually by UPSC to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) in three stages – Preliminary, Main and Interview. ,
