New Delhi: Having been a part of many highly acclaimed films in his illustrious career, veteran actor Govind Namdev won the hearts of the audience with his powerful and memorable performances in ‘Wanted’, ‘OMG – Oh My God!’, ‘Bandit Queen’, ‘Prem’ Is. Granth’, ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Virasat’, ‘Kachche Dhaage’, ‘Satya’ and many more.
Jimmy Shergill will now be seen playing a villain in the film Azam, starring alongside Abhimanyu Singh, Indraneil Sengupta and Raza Murad, which is all set to hit the theaters on May 26.
Govind Namdev shared, “Azam is basically the story of one night in Mumbai where a series of events shakes up the entire underworld, political system and police force. Also, every person connected to this world knows that it is their Life is at risk. But still they work in this industry for greed, fame and compulsion. People form gangs here and fight for power to rule a particular area. So the story covers these points underlines. Second, every person who comes into this world wants to be at the topmost position. The position of being safe and powerful. The rat race to become the new don and rule the city is the backdrop of the film.
Talking about his role, he says, “The one who is currently ruling is going to die soon, so the need for a new successor has created a stir in the underworld. I am also the one running my business in this world.” I’m one of the Syndicate.” And wants to make his son the next don. To make him the next ruler, my character plans to kill the competitors/rivals. But unfortunately, the assassination plan gets leaked and the person comes to know about the plan, so he kills my son in the film. And this is where the rivalry and the race for power begins. Then, what my character does after learning that his son has been killed, that’s something you need to see.
Sharing what inspired him to take up this story, he says, “It attracted me as it is one of those central characters whose presence changes the course of the story and has many layers to it. The character comes alive The emotional range is what appeals to me.”
Describing his working experience, he says, “It was a great experience working with him. It was his different nature on the sets that helped me bring out my best on the table. Very focused. There was a lot to improve as they are so professional and open to creativity. Even the director and my colleagues loved my performance in the film and praised me.”
