Former India cricketer and 2011 World Cup winner, Virender Sehwag revealed a funny reason why he and other senior players didn’t pick up Sachin Tendulkar after the Men in Blue beat Sri Lanka in the final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
After the final, Virat Kohli and Yusuf Pathan carried the little magician on their shoulders and the team took a lap of honor around the stadium with Tendulkar holding the country’s flag. “Because we rejected, Sachin’s weight was so heavy, we couldn’t lift him. We were old. We had shoulder injury and MS, knee problem, someone else had other problems. We let the youth carry the burden. You go and pick up Sachin Tendulkar and give him a round,” Sehwag said with a smile on his face at the ICC 2023 World Cup fixtures event on Tuesday. That’s why he was Virat Kohli.”

The 2011 World Cup was the last ICC event in which Sachin Tendulkar participated. He equaled Javed Miandad’s record for most appearances in the World Cup, his sixth. He scored 85 against arch-rivals Pakistan in the semi-final at Mohali and finished the tournament with two hundreds overall.
It was not the final he had envisioned before going out against Sri Lanka on April 2, 2011. He was dismissed early after Virender Sehwag, but MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir made it easy for their team to chase down 275.
