Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has established himself as one of the most talented and brilliant players of the current era. Since making his international debut in 2017, the 28-year-old batsman has showcased his skills in 42 ODIs, 49 T20Is and 10 Test matches, amassing an impressive 3,340 runs for Team India. However, his journey has come to a temporary halt as he has been sidelined with an injury since March.
While away from the cricket field, an unexpected talent of Iyer has come to the fore. Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) recently shared a video on Twitter in which Iyer is participating in the popular Instagram trend “Saiyan”. In the video, Iyer was also joined by fellow cricketers Aman Khan of Delhi Capitals and Hardik Tamore and Suryansh Shedge of Mumbai Indians and LSG teams respectively. The video not only highlighted Iyer’s singing ability, but also garnered attention and appreciation from fans.

In other news, it has been reported by ESPN Cricinfo that both India’s top bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer are eyeing a return to the national team for the Asia Cup 2023. Bumrah is absent from the cricket scene since September 2022. He missed the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 held in Australia due to a back injury. The talented bowler underwent lower back surgery in New Zealand in April and after months of recovery and rehabilitation, he is looking forward to getting back to competitive cricket.
Similarly, Shreyas Iyer has been plagued by a recurring lower back injury due to which he had to opt for back surgery in April. Troubled by a bulging disc, he was forced to withdraw from the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in March. Following this, Iyer underwent surgery in London in May and has since been advised rest and focused on his rehabilitation. As a result of his injury, he was unable to take part in the final Test against Australia and also missed the subsequent ODI series against the visitors.

Both Iyer and Bumrah are playing a vital role in the Indian cricket team and their absence is being felt. However, with his determination to make a comeback, fans are eagerly waiting for his comeback on the international stage. Asia Cup 2023 can serve as a platform for these talented individuals to once again showcase their skills and contribute to India’s success in the tournament.
As the recovery and rehabilitation of the cricketers continues, their progress will be closely monitored by the team management and selectors. A possible return of these two to the national team will not only boost India’s chances in the Asia Cup, but will also bring immense joy to their fans, who are eagerly waiting for their return.
