Legendary rapper Drake is currently on his ‘It’s All a Blur’ tour and some fans believe he tried to diss Donald Governor aka Childish Gambino in his latest performance.
Drake takes aim at Donald Grover
Captured by a fan and shared on Twitter, the footage showed Drake beginning the performance of his 2011 song “Headlines” while a series of tiny spotlights illuminated the stage.
One title specifically targeted Glover’s This Is America. The headline read, “The overrated and over awarded hit song ‘This Is America’ was originally a Drake dis record.”
Although this dissension may seem unnecessary to some, there is some truth in the title. Earlier this year, Glover, performing as Childish Gambino, told GQ that the initial concept for “This Is America” actually started as a Drake dis.
Drake’s quip refers to an interview where Donald Glover revealed the origins of the song. According to Glover, he got the idea for “This Is America” in 2015 as a humorous concept. He shared it with director Hiro Murai, who expressed interest in making it live. Governor said, “To be perfectly honest, ‘This is America’ (song) — that’s the only line we had,” adding, “It started out as a Drake diss, to be honest, Kind of a weird way of doing it. But then I was like, this sounds a little rough though. So I thought, let me play with it.”

In a subsequent appearance on The Breakfast Club, Glover further explained his comments by emphasizing their competitive nature, “Every rapper should feel the same way. I said those rappers specifically (in their lyrics) because I feel That they’re the best.” He admitted that “Kendrick, Drake, Schoolboy, I listen to them all the time… Kendrick’s okay with it. Drake probably doesn’t think it’s cool.”
Despite Glover’s light-hearted reaction to the idea of humiliating Drake, it appears Drake didn’t take it as a joke. Known for his keen eye for detail, Drake made sure to address the matter during his tour.
