Wife finds husband’s hidden bitcoin amid divorce proceedings

A New York couple’s divorce proceedings took a turn after a forensic accountant helped the husband track down a stash of 12 bitcoins (BTC) he intended to hide from his wife.

The couple in question had been married for 10 years, but the man’s wife suspected that her husband had not disclosed all his assets, which would be divided between the two after their divorce. Housewife – pseudonymously addressed as Sarita – revealed told CNBC that her husband was earning $3 million a year, which did not reflect his declared wealth.

The woman hired a forensic accountant, who eventually discovered that her husband had failed to declare 12 BTC – worth approximately $500,000 – stored in an unknown crypto wallet. Having no details about bitcoin investments, Sarita said:

“It was never a thought in my mind because it’s not like we were discussing it or investing together. It definitely came as a shock.”

As a result, the woman’s husband will have to part with some of his BTC holdings. Given that blockchain technology preserves all transactions and does not allow outside factors to modify or delete entries, tracking crypto investments is easier than their fiat counterparts.
