New Delhi: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday granted regular bail to Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) outgoing chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and federation’s assistant secretary Vinod Tomar Singh in a case of alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers. The court granted bail to the two on a personal surety bond of Rs 25,000 each, news agency ANI reported. The report further said, “The court while granting them bail imposed several conditions and stated that the accused shall not directly or indirectly induce the complainants or witnesses and shall not leave the country without the permission of the court.”
The court had earlier reserved its order on the regular bail plea of outgoing WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the sexual harassment case against women wrestlers. The judge reserved the order after hearing the arguments of the counsel appearing for the accused, prosecution as well as the complainants. “I will pass the order at 4 pm,” the judge said.
During the hearing, the public prosecutor, representing the Delhi Police, told the court that the accused be tried as per law and certain conditions be imposed on the relief being granted. When the court asked the prosecutor whether he was opposing the bail application, he said, “I am neither opposing nor supporting.” He told the court, “The application should be disposed of in accordance with the law and the order passed by the court.”

The counsel appearing for the complainants opposed the application saying that the accused is very influential. “Bail should not be given. If this is allowed, then strict conditions should be imposed. “Witnesses have been contacted from time to time, however there is no threat,” he told the court.
The counsel for the accused told the court that he would comply with all the conditions. There will be no threats etc. The law is very clear. He should be given bail. “I am undertaking to abide by the conditions,” the defense counsel told the court.
Significantly, women wrestlers had earlier questioned the motive of the government-constituted monitoring panel, which is probing sexual harassment allegations, alleging that it was biased towards Singh, who is a BJP MP.
The Delhi Police on June 15 booked the six-time MP under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The chargesheet was filed under. ) Indian Penal Code (IPC).
