PM Modi to lead International Day of Yoga at UN Headquarters
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate the International Day of Yoga on June 21 at the United Nations Headquarters with the UN leadership and members of the international community. Arrangements are also made in different parts of the country to celebrate the occasion and spread awareness about the benefits of the ancient Indian practice.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh will join Indian Navy personnel to perform yoga on board the indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, Kala Hari Kumar, President of the Naval Welfare and Welfare Association along with other senior officers of the Indian Navy and Ministry of Defense will be present during the event.
Armed forces personnel including Agniveers will participate in the event adopting the spirit of unity and welfare. After the yoga session, Raksha Mantri will address the gathering and honor the yoga instructors.
Indian Navy will stream a special video on Indian Navy’s outreach activities, emphasizing on the theme ‘Ocean Ring of Yoga’, while Indian Naval units deployed in the Indian Ocean Region will interact with friendly foreign countries to spread the message of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. This is the ninth year since the United Nations, through a resolution in 2014, recognized June 21 as International Yoga Day. The Ministry of Culture will also celebrate International Yoga Day. It is also proposed to celebrate International Day of Yoga 2023 at iconic sites with the help of circle offices of ASI, which will ensure wider reach and participation. Minister of State for Culture Meenakshi Lekhi will be present at Purana Qila, New Delhi. Minister of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal will be the chief guest at Noormahal Sarai in Jalandhar.
