YouTube is running an experiment to help sick people like me watch videos as fast as possible. The trial, which YouTube Premium subscribers can choose from, lets you long-press on the video player to set the playback speed to 2x. youtube usage page ,Via 9to5Google,
To me, this seems like a huge upgrade; Currently, there may be some annoying steps to take to increase playback speed on YouTube. On the mobile app, you need to tap on the video, tap on the three dots menu, tap on Playback speed Then You can choose from various options. It’s the same set of steps on the mobile and desktop web. (Though, on desktop, you can use the Shift and less-or-more keys to speed things up or slow down without looking in the menu.) The new feature seems somewhat inspired by TikTok: if you long-press a TikTok While long-pressing on the video, the app will bring up a bunch of different options including the playback speed menu.
The Experiments page states that YouTube’s long-press test is available until August 13. I’m not a premium subscriber, so I can’t test it myself, but I’m sure YouTube will make this feature available to everyone sometime after the experiment ends. (And in case anyone on YouTube is reading this, please let me watch the video at more than 2x speed.)
