Yuzvendra Chahal has had a very successful career for India in limited overs cricket. He has also been one of the top performers in the IPL. Since making his debut in 2016, Chahal has played 72 ODIs and taken 121 wickets, while he has taken 91 wickets in 75 T20Is.
Despite these performances, he has not been able to make the debut for India in Test cricket as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have served India well in the recent past.
However, the leg-spinner still has ambitions of playing Test cricket for the country. In a recent conversation, Chahal revealed that he still hopes to play red-ball cricket for India. He said that it is the dream of every cricketer to represent his team on the international stage and reach the pinnacle wearing white ball and playing red ball cricket.
“I have achieved a lot in white-ball cricket, but the red ball is still on my to do list. I still dream of getting the tag of ‘Test cricketer’ in front of my name. I try to give my best in domestic and Ranji games to fulfill my dream and I hope that I will get a chance to represent the Indian Test team soon.”
Ignoring Selection
Chahal also discussed his ambition of playing in the T20 World Cup for India. He admitted that he has not played any match in the tournament so far but said that he did not give much thought to it as some things were not in his hands. He stressed that his focus is on giving his best and performing well while playing the game. Chahal believed that once he donned the blue jersey and became a part of the team, it always gave him a sense of confidence.
“Selection is something that is not in our hands. Whether you are playing or not, once you put on the blue jersey and become a part of the team, it always gives you a sense of confidence. At least you are there, and be prepared for whatever comes next,” he added.
