story of success: UPSC Civil Services Exam is one of the most challenging exams in the world. Millions of optimists look up to those who succeed in doing so. IPS Archit Chandak is a man who has inspired many. When Chandak first appeared for UPSC in 2018, he immediately earned an All India Rank (AIR) of 184. At the Bazarpeth Police Station in Bhusaval, Maharashtra, he was initially posted as the Station House Officer. Recently, IITian-turned-IPS officer Chandak returned to his hometown Nagpur and has been appointed DCP. He has been given the control of Cyber Cell and Economic Offenses Wing (EOW). Chandak, 29, is the newest member of the urban police club, having joined the police force after clearing UPSC along with others like Hemant Nagrale, Nilesh Bharne and Prashant Burade.
An IIT-Delhi graduate and mechanical engineer, Chandak was brought up in Shankar Nagar and studied at Bhavan’s Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines, till Class VIII. He is the only child of Virendra and Chhaya Chandak. His parents are the Managing Directors of Nagpur Techno Marketing Pvt Ltd, MIDC Hingna. He completed his education at BP Vidya Mandir, Limited Bhavan. After success in the JEE exam in 2012, Chandak joined IIT Delhi and secured the city’s top ranking. Chandak chose to work for the government and serve his country while in college.

When Chandak was an intern, a Japanese company sent him a job offer of Rs 35 lakh. Yet he declined the post and instead started preparing for UPSC to clear the Civil Services Examination. After getting his graduation degree, he started his preparation in 2016. He has always advocated a systematic approach to study and review. He progressed in subjects while studying for the exam. According to Chandak, if you are dedicated towards achieving your goals, you will be able to continuously learn about all the concepts and topics without getting frustrated or angry.
IPS Archit Chandak, who loves playing chess, has a FIDE rating of 1820. He loves to exercise and has also run the entire 42 kilometer Mumbai Marathon. He regularly shares his daily activities on social media and is quite active there. He is married to IAS Saumya Sharma, who is the CEO of Zilla Parishad Nagpur and a fellow UPSC graduate. Securing All India Rank 9, IAS Soumya Sharma cracked the UPSC Civil Services Exam in her first attempt in 2018. In barely four months of study, Soumya, a Delhi resident and trained lawyer, cracked the toughest test. A true inspiration IAS Saumya Sharma lost her hearing when she was 16 but continued to work towards her goal. IAS Sharma decided to appear for the UPSC exam in 2017 after joining the National Law School to complete his education and pursue a legal career. Saumya worked very hard for the exam and passed it in her first attempt without any tuition.
