After Rajasthan Royals (RR)’s crushing 112-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), skipper Sanju Samson said it could have been a much tighter match if the hosts had a good power-play.
Half-centuries from captain Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell and an unbeaten 11-ball 29 from Anuj Rawat helped RCB post a competitive total of 171/5 in 20 overs.
In reply, the Royals put in a dismal batting display as they suffered an early collapse and were reduced to 28/5 in the power-play, before being bowled out for 59 in 10.3 overs, the third-lowest innings total in history. Competition.
Only Joe Root and Shimron Hetmyer managed to reach double figures and the latter was the only player able to take on the opposition bowlers.
“I think our top three were scoring a lot of runs, we work hard in the power-play but it didn’t come out today. I think it’s too early to judge or analyze the game. You need to work hard in this ” Samson said after the match, “Power-play knowing that the ball is getting slower and older, me, Jaiswal and Jos played like this throughout.”
Credit to the RCB bowlers for their energy and intensity. I think it was a target that could have gone down the wire, I expected a tight match if we had a good power-play. ”
Samson further said that he has no answer as to how the batting went, adding that the nature of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is such that anything can happen at any time.
He said, “I was just looking at the batting collapse, where did we go wrong? I don’t think I have an answer right now. We all know the nature of the IPL, we saw some funny things in the league stage We have to stay strong, take a day off and think about the game in Dharamshala. I think we need to end on a strong note. We need to come together as a team for this performance You have to take responsibility.”
RR will now travel to Dharamsala for their last league stage match against Punjab Kings on May 19.
How can Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals qualify for the playoffs after their heavy defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023?
Rajasthan Royals, the IPL 2008 champions, are currently placed sixth in the league table with 12 points despite a thumping win over Kolkata Knight Riders. However, their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs were dealt a blow with an embarrassing defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore, where they were bundled out for just 59 runs, the third lowest total in IPL history.
