Tesla boss Elon Musk has a bitter relationship with AI. On the one hand the billionaire advocates for tighter regulations in the AI industry, on the other, he wants a significant share of the AI pie. Musk has recently launched his ambitious artificial intelligence venture xAI to reshape the industry with ‘based AI’. One of the founding investors in ChatGPT’s parent company OpenAI, Musk has been targeting the company for some time now. Is xAI a direct competitor to Sam Altman’s OpenAI, now backed by Microsoft? During a Twitter space, the overlord of the Bird app shed light on a number of issues including its goal with xAI. Here’s a brief recap.

When probed by a user, Musk acknowledged that xAI is a direct competition to Sam Altman’s OpenAI. He also introduced the founding team of xAI which has many former employees from DeepMind, OpenAI, Google and even Tesla. Musk said the venture aims to build an altruistic AGI (Artificial Generative Intelligence) with the sole purpose of understanding the universe. He also addressed some of his concerns about a contextual superintelligence that could take over the world. Musk said that a good AGI should be made which is ‘Maximum Curious’ and also ‘Truth Curious’. For such AGI superintendence, priority is given to humanity.

Meanwhile, XAI co-founder Greg Yang said the mathematics deployed at XAI could open up new perspectives. Musk commented that one cannot call anything AGI until it solves at least one fundamental question of humanity. He also discussed the political correctness of AI. He said that it is very dangerous to teach AI to lie.
