John Boyega reveals he’s “open” to a comeback star wars universe – but only if the project is suitable for him.
In an exclusive TechRadar interview to promote his new Netflix film they cloned tyroneBoyega confirms he hasn’t completely closed the door on future appearances star wars film. However, he suggested that it would be the right time for Finn, the character he played in the next film trilogy in the franchise.
Boyega’s star wars The future has been a hot topic of discussion as he criticized the decision to sideline ethnic minority characters during the progression of the sequel trilogy. In Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Boyega’s Finn played a large role in furthering its story. However, in Star Wars: Episode VIII And Star Wars: Episode IXFinn and Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico – to name just two of the characters – were relegated to the sidelines in favor of white characters from the franchise, such as Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren.
In a lengthy GQ interview in September 2020, Boyega also took aim at certain sections of Star Wars fans for racially abusing him and Tran. At the time, Boyega said: “I’m the only member of the cast who had her own unique experience of that franchise based on her race. Let’s just leave it like that. It annoys you with this kind of process. It makes you more militant; It transforms you. Because you realize, ‘I got this opportunity but I am in an industry that was not ready for me.’
“None of the actors had said that they were going to boycott the film because (they were in it). No one else sent out rants and death threats on their Instagram DMs and social media saying, ‘Black this and black that and you shouldn’t be a Stormtrooper.’ No one else had that experience. But still people are surprised that I am like this. This is my frustration.”
In the nearly three-year period since that interview, Boyega has made peace with his experience as a black actor. star wars, It’s unclear what the future holds for Finn in Lucasfilm’s iconic universe, but speculation is growing that we could see him again in the future star wars film.
Asked if he’s interested in returning to that galaxy far, far away, Boyega told me: “They (those comments) were from a few years ago, so they were the subject of that particular project. Open to characters and scripts that are enjoyable, have great actors and a great director. So yeah, I’m open to all opportunities.”
Boyega’s comments come as speculation rife that Finn could play a supporting role in one of the upcoming four star wars movies. One such film, focusing on Rey, appears to be the most likely candidate. Eventually, Finn and Rey form a strong partnership the power wakes upAnd many fans would love to see the pair reunite for another adventure.
According to the April 2023 edition of The Hot Mic Podcast starring John Rocha and Jeph Snyder, Lucasfilm executives have reportedly talked about casting Boyega’s Finn as co-lead alongside Ridley’s Rey. This comes after a reported conversation between Boyega and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, who has “buried the grudge” over Boyega’s previous quotes.
Obviously, fans should take that rumor with a pinch of salt, and wait for an official casting announcement by Lucasfilm. Given that Boyega is “open” to returning to the series that made him a household name, though, I’d be surprised if we didn’t see Finn in the future. star wars Project. Here’s hoping I’m right.
