West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has been holding meetings with opposition party leaders for almost two years, has softened her stand against the Congress after the old party registered a landslide victory in the Karnataka elections on its own . Addressing the media today, Banerjee said that the Trinamool Congress will support the Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but the grand old party will have to answer it. He said the Congress should allow regional parties to fight from states where they are strong.
Mamta Banerjee on opposition unity
Banerjee has been an especially vocal critic of the Congress since the Bharatiya Janata Party lost several state elections in the past few years. This is the first time that the Chief Minister of Bengal has openly voiced her strategy for opposition unity. “I am no magician and I am not an astrologer at all. I cannot say what will happen in future. I can tell you one thing that wherever regional party is strong, BJP cannot fight. Wherever people are very They are disappointed and frustrated, where there is anti-incumbency, like the verdict against BJP in Karnataka, so wherever people have protested, atrocities are taking place, economy is ruined, democratic rights have been trampled, then such In the situation, whoever is strong in that area, they should fight together there,” Banerjee said.
Regional parties vs BJP in 2024
Banerjee said TMC should contest elections in West Bengal and similarly AAP should fight Delhi and Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party should be given prominence in Uttar Pradesh. “In Bihar, Nitish ji and Tejashwi are together and in some parts Congress is also. They should decide, I cannot decide their formula. Like in Tamil Nadu, they have friendship (Congress and DMK), and they should fight together. Needed.” Regional parties should fight in Bihar, Odisha, Bengal, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab and other states.
Mamta Banerjee’s seat sharing formula
The Bengal CM said that regional parties should be given priority in areas where they are strong. Revealing the seat-sharing formula, Banerjee said the Congress should contest around 200 seats while the rest of the parliamentary seats should be given to regional parties. “Wherever the Congress is strong, we will let them contest their respective 200 (Lok Sabha) seats or whatever they have calculated. We will support. They will have to support other political parties as well. If I am supporting them in Karnataka And they are fighting against me in Bengal, this should not be the policy. If you want to get good things, you have to sacrifice yourself in some areas as well,” Banerjee said.
Mamta Banerjee said that Congress will also have to cooperate with them to get support from other parties. Banerjee had earlier saluted the people of Karnataka after the BJP lost power there, while avoiding mentioning the old party with which the TMC has had run-ins in the past.
