Noida: Two people jumped from the third floor of a commercial building here on Thursday after a fire broke out, but survived as they fell on a pile of mattresses spread on the ground by locals, officials said. He said that both – a man and a woman – suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.
The fire broke out inside a shop in the Noida Extension, also known as Greater Noida (West) building around 1 p.m., after which the two jumped out breaking the glass shield and about 30 to 35 feet fell from a height of said the senior police officer.
“A total of five people were trapped in the fire that broke out inside a photo/video studio on the third floor of Galaxy Commercial Plaza. While two people quickly jumped out of the building, three others were rescued by police and firefighters.” Additional DCP (Central Noida) Rajeev Dixit told PTI.

“Before falling from a height, the man and the woman were seen hanging from the building. Meanwhile, some locals found a mattress shop nearby and quickly brought a couple of them and laid them on the ground. When the two fell, they fell in. “I sustained minor injuries and a major incident was averted,” said Dixit, who oversaw the rescue efforts.
He said the fire was brought under control in about an hour and all five people were taken to a health care facility.
Prima facie, the fire broke out due to short circuit inside the studio, the official said.
