Patna: Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras on Saturday once again staked his claim on the Hajipur seat and said that he would contest the next Lok Sabha elections from the parliamentary constituency of his late brother Ram Vilas Paswan. Speaking to ANI, Pashupati Paras slammed his nephew Chirag Paswan, who had earlier said that he is going to contest from the constituency. He said, “I will contest from Hajipur itself, it is my right. Paras said, “I am the MP there, I am a cabinet minister in the Government of India and an old and trusted ally of the NDA (National Democratic Alliance).”
In 2019, Pashupati Paras won from Hajipur while Chirag emerged victorious from Jamui. However, the uncle-nephew fight shows no sign of abating for nearly three years. Pashupati Kumar Paras and Chirag Paswan were the first to claim the legacy of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) founder Ram Vilas Paswan.
Earlier on Tuesday, Chirag said that he would contest the next Lok Sabha elections in 2024 from Hajipur constituency in Bihar. Chirag Paswan told ANI, “I definitely say that I will contest Lok Sabha elections from Hajipur only. It is not right to share the conversation with BJP in public platform but it is certain that Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will contest Lok Sabha elections from Hajipur.”

The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) was formed in October 2021 after the Election Commission allotted a separate symbol to Chirag Paswan’s faction following differences with his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, who heads a different faction. In the 2020 Bihar assembly elections, Chirag Paswan walked out of the NDA, rebelling against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
In the Bihar Assembly Elections 2020, the LJP managed to garner only 5.66 per cent vote share, winning one seat. The lone MLA who won under the LJP symbol soon joined the JDU. Paswan touched Paras’ feet and both hugged each other. Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) chief Paras played down the heat, saying he was on a political platform and had nothing to do with his family.
“That was just a courtesy. It is our etiquette that if one touches the feet of an elder, the elder blesses him in return. Especially in Bihar, when someone touches the feet, elders give blessings. Similarly, when he (Chirag Paswan) touched my feet, I gave him my blessings. Pashupati Kumar Paras said, that was a personal matter and political issue is different.
