IPL 2023: The win gave RCB the crucial two points and they are fifth on the table with 12 points and a healthy run rate of +0.166 with two matches left.
For RCB, Wayne Parnell was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed three wickets along with the likes of Michael Bracewell and Mohammed Siraj as RCB registered a massive win.
Faf du Plessis’ 44-ball 55 and Glenn Maxwell’s 33-ball 54 were followed by Anuj Rawat’s 11-ball 29 not out, taking RCB to a competitive 171/5 in 20 overs.
Then, RCB bowlers led by Wayne Parnell (3-10) produced a blazing performance and reduced RR to 28-5 in the power-play. The hosts never recovered from the early collapse as they were bowled out for 59 in 11 overs.

Chasing 172, RR lost three quick wickets and were 7 for three in the first two overs. Mohammed Siraj drew first blood as he removed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck. Parnell struck twice in the next over to pick up the wickets of Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson.
Root and Devdutt Padikkal hit a couple of boundaries before Bracewell heaped more misery in the fifth over by removing Padikkal off a short ball. Then, Shimron Hetmyer started with a bang as he just hit through the line and smoked it over long on for a maximum.
Parnell struck again and took his third wicket, trapping Root LBW. Bracewell got his second wicket in the seventh over as he removed Dhruv Jurel and RR lost their sixth wicket with 50 not even on the scoreboard.
Then, Hetmyer did what he does best and hit Karn Sharma for three consecutive sixes. Next ball, a slight mix-up in the middle saw Ravichandran Ashwin run out and RR were reduced to 50/7 in eight overs.
Maxwell came into the attack in the 10th over and got rid of Hetmyer, RR’s only hope and the hosts were struggling at 59/8.
Karn Sharma’s double strike in the 11th over put the final nail in the coffin as the hosts were bundled out for 59 runs. He first clean bowled Adam Zampa on the googly. One delivery later he dismissed KM Asif and RCB sealed a massive 112-run victory.
Earlier, opting to bat first, RCB got off to a modest start as the RR bowlers kept the opening pair, skipper du Plessis and Kohli, at bay with their superb bowling – only four fours and the visitor in the first six overs Had scored 42 runs without a wicket. Loss at the end of the power-play.
In the subsequent over of the power-play, KM Asif provided a crucial breakthrough as Kohli failed to take his knuckleball perfectly and was dismissed for 18. The scoreboard just kept ticking. RCB’s score was 78/1 in 10 overs.
The Royals continued with a clinical bowling display as no boundaries came in the next 19 balls, before Maxwell hit two consecutive fours to break the shackles.
In the next over, du Plessis brought up his seventh half-century of the season with a simple six off Asif in the 15th over. But the pacer was quick to regroup as he removed the opener on the final ball of the over.
Zampa’s double strike reduced RCB to 120/4 in the 16th over. He first removed Mahipal Lomror and then implicated Dinesh Karthik. Maxwell completed his half-century in the next over. Soon after his half-century, he lost his wicket while attempting a reverse sweep off the bowling of Sandeep Sharma.
When it looked like RCB would end up with an under-par score, Anuj Rawat’s cameo put the spectators in the driving seat as he hit Asif for back-to-back sixes and sealed things with a four in the last over. Finished it. Sensational close for RCB.
